Judith (Judy) Ann LaFata, a longtime resident of West Bloomfield, passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2024. She was the beloved wife of Joseph for 62 years and loving mother of James. She succumbed to a 22 year old battle with vascular dementia. She was in hospice care at home surrounded by family and friends at the time of her death.

Judy was born in Detroit on September 17, 1939 and was 84 years old at the time of her passing. She is survived by her husband and their son, and her sister DonnaJo (Thomas) Harned. Preceding her in death were her parents, Joseph and Donna O'Halloran and three of her sisters, Cathy (Robert) Fearon, Gale (Frank) Cusmano, and Jackie (Paul) Engels. Following her graduation from St. Cecilia High School in Detroit, she attended the University of Detroit where she received her degree in Education. Following graduation, she taught History, English and Art in the West Bloomfield and Catholic Archdiocese of Detroit school systems. Of all the subjects she taught, Art was her favorite. Besides teaching art, she was an excellent artist and sculpturer in her own right as evidenced by her Dreamers and Schemers project comprised of 16 miniature sculptures that represent early Americana Structures.

One of her joys was to share her art pieces with family and friends. Not only did she share her art but also her time to help family and friends in need. She had a beautiful and engaging smile and personality that made being with her a pure delight. Her husband's work required extensive travel and when possible, Judy would join him. One of her favorite trips was a one month tour of Paris and surroundings. Judy was in her glory visiting all of the art museums and art galleries. Judy and the family have been members of Our Lady of Refuge Parish for 56 years and over that span have been involved in many parish activities. Services have been held at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church. View obituary and sign tribute wall at
