Joseph Hazebrook

Mr. Joseph Mark Hazebrook, 66, of Grosse Pointe Woods, MI, passed away on November 6, 2023, after a long struggle with Parkinson's disease and Dementia.

Born December 7, 1956, in Houghton, Joe was a remarkable individual who overcame early challenges with grace and resilience. He grew up in Detroit, studied at Macomb Community College, graduating with a degree in Numerical Control Technology. He worked for over 20 years as a CAD team Leader.

Joe's life was marked by his passion for sailing. He became a sought-after crew member and helmsman, competing in races across the Great Lakes, the Eastern Seaboard, the Caribbean, and in Japan. His experience and calm demeanor proved to be a great benefit during challenging conditions, which helped him earn the trust and admiration of his crew mates.

Despite facing adversity in his early years, Joe's sense of humor and wit endeared him to all who knew him. He was described as a compassionate, caring, and humble man, always bringing laughter and cheer to those around him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Hazebrook-Powers; his stepdaughters, Shyla and Lorelle Strange and his grandchildren; brother Dan Hazebrook, and extended family members. Joe was preceded by his older brother, Doug Hazebrook.

Joe's life will be honored at a service on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at 4 PM, at Grosse Pointe Woods Presbyterian Church, 19950 Mack Ave. His memory will live in the hearts of those who knew him.
