Auburn Hills police are investigating the death of a Lansing man who appears to have been the victim of a hit-and-run crash, officials said.

Police and medics were called at about 3:40 a.m. Wednesday to South Boulevard near Sheffield Road for a report of a person lying in the roadway.

Bloomfield Township police officers and firefighters arrived there first, authorities said. They found a man who was injured in the roadway and pronounced him dead. Officials said they identified the man as a 40-year-old Lansing resident.

According to a preliminary investigation, a witness who had been traveling west on South Boulevard saw the man in the roadway and called 911 to report it. The caller also said he saw another vehicle traveling west on the road strike the victim, investigators said.

He said the driver of the other vehicle, which he described as a small, dark SUV, did not stop at the scene, police said.

Officials said the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about the hit-and-run crash should call the Auburn Hills Police Department at (248) 370-9460.
