State police determined there was no shooting Wednesday in connection with a road rage incident on Interstate 275 in Wayne County, officials said.

Plymouth Township police called state police dispatchers at 6:40 a.m. Wednesday about a possible shooting on I-275's southbound lanes between Seven Mile and Five Mile roads, they said.

Troopers arrived and determined two drivers, a 31-year-old Flint man and a 53-year-old Novi man, got into a dispute while traveling on the freeway, authorities said.

The older driver told troopers the younger man threw a bottle at his car before firing a gun at his vehicle, MSP said. He told police he saw a muzzle flash.

Police spoke to the second driver and he admitted he threw a bottle at the other motorist's car, but told them he did not shoot at the other man, investigators said.

He also informed troopers he had a weapon in his vehicle and has a valid license to carry it.

Troopers found no shooting happened and no weapon had been fired. They were able to account for all rounds and found no evidence during a sweep for shell casings, officials said.

They planned to submit their findings to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office to determine charges.
