Bucks' Beverley won't allow question from reporter who isn't subscribed to his podcast

The Detroit News

It's a scene that has played out thousands of times — a media member in a locker room doing postgame interviews is looking to ask a question.

Nothing unusual there.

After Thursday night's Game 6 loss to the Indiana Pacers, Milwaukee Bucks guard Patrick Beverley denied a media member an opportunity to ask a question because she wasn't a subscriber to his podcast — and that's where things went off course.

ESPN producer Malinda Adams was next to Beverley and holding a microphone among the media scrum, and Beverley started the exchange:

"Do you subscribe to my pod?" Beverley asked Adams.

"Do I subscribe? I do not," Adams responded.

"You can't interview me, then," he said

Adams continued listening off to the side of the encircled group of media members, as another journalist asked a question.

"Can you move that mic out of my face, please?" Beverley interrupted, addressing Adams.

Then, a moment later, he said: "Can you move that mic, please, or just get out of the circle, please, for me, please, ma'am, if you're not subscribed to my pod?"

In posted video, Adams looks to have left the group, and the interview continued.

On social media Thursday night and Friday morning, many media members supported Adams and criticized Beverley's behavior.

By late Friday morning, Adams posted on X (formerly Twitter) that Beverley, as well as the Milwaukee Bucks, had reached out to her to apologize.

There was no word from the NBA on whether Beverley would be subject to any disciplinary action.
