Robert Snell is an award-winning, multimedia reporter covering federal courts for The Detroit News. He was the lead reporter covering the city of Detroit's bankruptcy case and since 2010 has covered U.S. District Court and federal agencies in Detroit, including the Department of Justice, FBI and DEA. He is a former General Motors beat reporter and led coverage of the automaker’s historic collapse and bankruptcy. The Detroit chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists named him Journalist of the Year in 2020, 2018 and 2014.
