Spirit adds flights to Seattle, Oakland from Detroit

Spirit Airlines on Tuesday announced two seasonal summer flights to Seattle and Oakland out of Detroit Metropolitan Airport as the low-cost carrier continues to expand its presence in the region.

The daily nonstop flights, part of 10 expanded seasonal flights all over the country and originating in other cities, such as Houston, New Orleans and Baltimore, will start on May 25 out of Metro. Tickets are available to purchase immediately.

“We’re excited to expand our growing network with more flight options between some of the country’s most desired destinations,” said Mark Kopczak, Spirit Airlines' vice president of network planning.

"These new nonstop flights, combined with our ultra-low fares, will give many more customers the chance to check off their travel bucket lists with more money saved to spend making memories on vacation.”

The flight expansion into Metro Detroit by the Florida-based carrier has been ongoing for a few years.

The airlines has added season flights to other cities such as Minneapolis as well as Kansas City, and other nonstop routes to Atlanta and New Orleans. It has also been flying direct service to Philadelphia and Baltimore.

Spirit is also nearing completion of a new maintenance and repair hangar that is set to open this spring.

“Spirit has been growing here in our market, and recently announced additional service to Oakland, California, and Seattle, Washington, beginning in May — more evidence of their continued commitment to growing our market and serving Detroit’s travelers,” said Joseph Nardone, CEO of the Wayne County Airport Authority, which operates Metro Airport.
