8 Michiganians make Forbes 2023 list of wealthiest Americans
Eight Michigan billionaires have made Forbes magazine's 2023 list of the 400 wealthiest Americans — and the usual suspects from the Great Lakes State are on it. Here they are, listed from the least wealth to the one with the most.
285: Roger Penske
Bloomfield Hills-based businessman, Penske is the last Michiganian on the list and tied with Marian Illitch at No. 285. Penske, a retired auto racer, owns automobile dealerships, automotive race teams, truck rentals, IndyCar and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The magazine also lists his net worth at $4 billion.
285: Marian Ilitch
The wife of the late pizza mogul Mike Ilitch came in at 285 on the list. Mike, who died in 2017, and Marian Ilitch co-founded Little Caesars Pizza in 1959.

204: Doug, Hank and Mark Meijer and family
Brothers Doug, Hank and Mark Meijer, who own the grocery store chain, placed 204th on the list.
Based in Grand Rapids, the privately-owned company was founded in 1934 and operates more than 500 supercenters, Meijer Grocery, neighborhood markets and Express locations throughout Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Wisconsin.
Forbes lists their net worth at $5.3 billion.
156: Matt Ishbia
The president and CEO of mortgage lender UWM Holdings, formerly known as United Wholesale Mortgage, ranks No. 156 on Forbes' list.
In addition to being the top executive at the Pontiac-based mortgage company, Ishbia is also the owner of the Phoenix Suns professional basketball team.
The magazine puts his net worth at $6.7 billion.
128: Ronda Stryker
Ronda Stryker, of Portage, director of medical equipment company Stryker Corp., is the next highest Michiganian on the list at No. 128. She is also vice chair and a director of Greenleaf Trust, a Michigan bank, and vice chair of Spelman College. Stryker is also a member of the Harvard Medical School Board of Fellows.
Forbes lists Stryker's net worth at $7.4 billion.
34: Dan Gilbert
Quicken Loans founder and chairman Dan Gilbert ranked highest on the list at No. 34. The mortgage broker, philanthropist and real estate developer also owns the Cleveland Cavaliers professional basketball team.
Forbes lists Gilbert's net worth at $21.3 billion.
