WDIV-TV (Channel 4) on Friday said it has promoted Jennifer Wallace Canine to news director from assistant news director, effective immediately.

Wallace Canine replaces Kim Voet, who in July announced she was joining CBS Miami after 26 years at the NBC affiliate in Detroit. Voet had been news director at WDIV since March 2011.

Jennifer Wallace Canine has been named news director at WDIV-TV (Channel 4).

Wallace Canine takes over news direction amid an ever-competitive and changing news landscape disrupted by technology. She's been with WDIV since 1997, starting as a freelancer and working her way up through newscast producing ranks to executive producer and then assistant news director. She is a graduate of Boston University's law school and the University of California, Santa Barbara for her bachelor's in communications and media studies.

She has fostered the culture of WDIV's newsroom, Bob Ellis, the channel's vice president and general manager, said in a statement: "Jenn is also the right person to lead us in our evolving storytelling approach and help every news employee find ways to serve our viewers on all platforms every day."

Wallace Canine said in a statement: "We know what we want to deliver to our community which is impactful and important news — and we want to be the best at it on every single platform.”
