Shinola to hand out free coneys at Lafayette Coney Island to celebrate 313 Day
Would you look at the time? The clock strikes coney on "313 Day."
Shinola, the Detroit-based retail shop known for its watchmaking, is teaming up Wednesday with Lafayette Coney Island to celebrate Detroit and 313 Day, a Shinola spokesperson said in an email Tuesday.
The watchmaker in an Instagram Reel post said it will hand out free coney dogs from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday at Lafayette Coney Island, 118 W. Lafayette Boulevard, one of the Motor City's historic coney islands.
March 13 is 313 Day, after the city's largely 313 area code, a symbol of pride for Motor City.
The area code was established in 1947 as one of the original area codes in the North American numbering plan, according to the Michigan Public Service Commission. It serves several communities in Wayne County, including Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, Hamtramck, Ecorse, Grosse Pointe, Inkster, Lincoln Park, Redford Township, River Rouge and Taylor, the commission said.
Free coney dogs are limited one per guest while supplies last. Chili, mustard and onions are available, the Shinola post said.
