Corewell Health has tapped a health care executive in Arizona as its new president for its East region. Lamont Yoder, a registered nurse, takes on the role for the nonprofit heath system effect May 6.

Yoder, an Ohio native, joins Corewell Health from Banner Health in Arizona, one of the country's largest nonprofit health systems. He is currently division president of 13 of the system’s 30 hospitals.

According to the Corewell Health, Yoder will report to its chief operating officer, Dr. Darryl Elmouchi, and serve on Corewell Health President & CEO Tina Freese Decker’s senior leadership team.

“We were searching for a dynamic, proven health care leader to oversee our eight hospitals in the metro Detroit area,” Elmouchi said in a press release Friday. “Lamont has more than 25 years of heath care leadership experience across the country. Throughout it all, he has maintained his nursing license and always put people first. We are excited for him to join our team.”

Elmouchi had served in the president role on an interim basis following the August departure of Ben Schwartz, MD.

Yoder’s previous leadership roles include chief nursing officer position at Vanguard Health Systems Inc. and OhioHealth. He is also involved in various state and national nurse executive organizations, according to the health system.

“I am thrilled to be joining the Corewell Health team,” Yoder said in a statement. “Throughout my career, I have always looked to our hard-working care teams at the frontline to teach me what they need to be successful. My priority will be to listen to and learn from the incredible physicians, nurses and clinical care teams. I was born in Ohio, and I’m excited to move back home to the Midwest.”

Corewell Health employs more than 60,000, including 11,500 advanced practice providers and more than 15,000 nurses across 22 hospitals and more than 300 outpatient locations and post-acute care facilities.
