General Motors Co. has planned three down weeks for its Fort Wayne, Indiana, assembly plant to prepare the plant for production of the next-generation Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra full-size pickups.

The downtime is scheduled for the weeks of April 29, June 24 and July 8, GM spokesperson Kevin Kelly said in a statement, noting: "This anticipated downtime will not impact our ability to meet strong customer demand for our industry-leading pickups."

As a result, Grand Rapids Operations, Marion Metal Center, Lansing Grand River Stamping and Parma Metal Center that support Fort Wayne will also have to take downtime. Specifics weren't available Thursday, but "will be communicated to each plant as soon as details are available," Kelly said.
