“Joe Turner’s Come and Gone” at Detroit Repertory Theatre
This historic theater group will perform August Wilson’s “Joe Turner’s Come and Gone,” set in 1911. The spiritual story of self-discovery follows a group of strangers who share a boarding house. Chris Tucker at Fox Theatre
Stand-up comedian and actor Chris Tucker brings his 30-date “Legend Tour” to town this weekend. Audience members will be required to put their phones or smart watches in a Youndr pouch that will seal them during the duration of the performance. David Spade at Royal Oak Music Theatre
He’s been a comedic favorite for years for his time on “Saturday Night Live” and his memorable roles in comedic films like “Tommy Boy” and animated films including “Hotel Transylvania.” Lately his fans have been enjoying his insightful podcast with fellow SNL alum Dana Carvey, “Fly on the Wall.” Spade, who as born in Birmingham, Michigan, but raised in Arizona, brings his “Catch Me Inside” stand-up tour to Royal Oak this weekend. 7 p.m. Sat. $45-$75. 318 W. Towers of Tomorrow Lego exhibit at Michigan Science Center
Friday is the final day for the Towers of Tomorrow exhibit featuring 20 “skyscrapers” made of Lego bricks. Visitors can make their own Lego structure, too, and explore other parts of the Science Center like the IMAX theater, Math Mountain and the STEM Playground. “Beyond Topography” at Janice Charach Gallery
Curated by Detroit artist Clinton Snider, this exhibition features works by nearly two dozen artists, including Snider, Scott Hocking, Tylonn Sawyer, Bakpak Durden, Taurus Burns and others. The show includes paintings, sculptures and photography. Let Freedom Ring at Fox Theatre
In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Rainbow Push will celebrate those who have followed in his footsteps in terms of social justice and humanity. These include Big Sean, Judge Greg Mathis, Bishop J. Drew Sheard, Amy Nederlander and Maha Freij. The free event will also have tributes to the late Harry Belafonte and the Rev.
