Each week of Lent we highlight 10 local spots for fish

Bar Louie: This national bar and restaurant chain has a variety of specials for Lent on Fridays, including citrus-grilled salmon, beer-battered fish and chips, shrimp and grits and more, through March 29. Visit barlouie.com for locations and hours.

Detroit 75 Kitchen: Choose a fish and chips platter, or their outstanding Fisher Fwy. fish sandwich, with your choice of wild-caught catfish, Gulf Maine haddock or lake perch, lightly battered, seasoned and fried. Knights of Columbus 4188 Clawson: A single-service buffet line with baked tilapia, fried pollock, crab cakes, baked potatoes, fries, mac and cheese, vegetables, coleslaw, rolls, dessert and soft drinks. O’Brien’s Crab House: A popular place for East Coast seafood all year round, O’Brien’s has a raw bar, snow crab, Dungeness crab and king crab plus fried shrimp, stuffed flounder, Great Lakes whitefish and walleye, perch piccata and steam pots with clams and mussels. Paddy Whacks Pub: Among their Lent specials are a two-piece cod dinner with steak fries and coleslaw and a cod and shrimp combo. St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church: Known for having a quick-service drive-thru, this church just a block north of historic downtown Manchester, Michigan has beer-battered fried cod dinners with fries, roll, butter, coleslaw, tartar sauce and homemade cookies. Supergeil: For a gourmet version of fish and chips, head to Corktown to this colorful, trendy restaurant that specialize in a mix of Eastern European and Middle Eastern cuisine. Their version of fried fish and chips uses branzini and is seasoned with cumin and sumac and served with a lemon-pickle aioli for $28. It’s on the menu all the time. 2442 Michigan, Detroit. Weyand’s Fish: A seafood market that becomes a carryout fried fish restaurant on Fridays, Weyand’s offers fresh lake perch, walleye, cod, shrimp, tilapia and chicken tender dinners with fries, slaw and hush puppies starting at $6.60, or order a la carte or by the pound or half pound. 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Fridays. 471 Biddle, Wyandotte. Ann Arbor kid on “MasterChef Junior”: Look out for 9-year-old chef Lilo on season 9 of “MasterChef Junior,” premiering 8 p.m. Monday on Fox, and airing the next day on Hulu. The Ann Arbor-based chef will compete with other culinary kids and have their food judged by host Gordon Ramsay, his daughter Tilly Ramsay and others for the chance at $100,000 in prize money. Shady Lane Cellars’ Wine Series: Next month, the team at Michigan’s Shady Lane Cellars will bring its sustainable, estate-grown and award-winning wines from upstate to Metro Detroit for a series of wine tastings and wine dinners.
