“Moonlight” and “Manchester by the Sea” lead the field for the Detroit Film Critics Society’s year-end awards, collecting eight nods apiece, the group announced Wednesday. “La La Land” follows with five.

All three films are nominated for Best Picture, along with the Texas bank robbery caper “Hell or High Water” and the high school dramedy “The Edge of Seventeen.”

Winners in all 10 DFCS categories will be announced on Monday.

“Manchester by the Sea’s” Casey Affleck leads the Best Actor pack, going up against “Loving’s” Joel Edgerton, “Hacksaw Ridge’s” Andrew Garfield, “Fences’” Denzel Washington and “La La Land’s” Ryan Gosling.

Gosling’s “La La Land” co-star Emma Stone heads up the Best Actress pool, and is up opposite “Jackie’s” Natalie Portman, “Arrival’s” Amy Adams (a previous DFCS winner, for 2010’s “The Fighter”), “20th Century Women’s” Annette Bening, “Christine’s” Rebecca Hall and “Loving’s” Ruth Negga.

Damien Chezelle, who was singled out as the DFCS’ breakthrough artist of the year for 2014’s “Whiplash,” is nominated in the Best Director field alongside “Moonlight’s” Barry Jenkins (who is also nominated for this year’s Breakthrough award), “Manchester’s” Kenneth Lonergan, “Hell or High Water’s” David Mackenzie and “Fences’” Denzel Washington.

The DFCS, now in its 10th awards cycle, is comprised of 17 film critics who work and reside within a 150-mile radius of Detroit.
