Miley Cyrus announces November date at Fillmore Detroit

Miley Cyrus is bringing her Dead Petz to Detroit.

After serving as the host and the musical guest on the season premiere of “Saturday Night Live,” the pop superstar and cultural lightning rod announced a short six-date tour supporting her surprise August release “Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz.”

The tour — which will see Cyrus backed by alternative rock space cadets the Flaming Lips, who double as her Dead Petz backing band — hits the Fillmore Detroit Nov. 21. Tickets go on sale at 4 p.m. Wednesday; prices are TBA.

The Fillmore show is the second date of the brief Midwest and East Coast tour, which launches Nov. 19 at Chicago’s Riviera Theatre. The tour wraps Dec. 6 at Boston’s House of Blues.

“Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz” was released for free online following Cyrus’ hosting gig at August’s MTV Video Music Awards. The experimental 23-song album finds Cyrus playing with elements of psychedelic rock and downtempo art pop, a stark departure from the brash hip-hop and pop sound of her 2013 album “Bangerz.”

The concert will mark Cyrus’ first visit to Metro Detroit since her eye-popping Bangerz tour dropped by the Palace of Auburn Hills in April 2014.

The tour isn’t the first time the Flaming Lips have played backup for another artist on the road. The Oklahoma rockers acted as Beck’s band on a tour that played Detroit’s Opera House in October 2002.
