Musician, composer and drummer of the Police, Stewart Copeland will join the Detroit Symphony Orchestra this weekend to perform selections from his storied career.

The one night only concert features Copeland on drums with the DSO, vocalists Amy Keys, Carmel Helene and Ashley Támar and bassist Armand Sabal-Lecco. Nationally known composer, arranger and conductor Enrico Lopez-Yañez will lead the ensemble.

Titled “Stewart Copeland: Police Deranged,” the concert features some of the Police’s biggest hits.

Drummer Stewart Copeland performs with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra Sunday.

“Stewart Copeland is synonymous with rock history through his work with the Police and beyond, and we are thrilled to welcome him for this high-energy program with the DSO," said Jessica Slais, the DSO's creative director of popular and special programming.

Slais says the set list will be familiar to even a casual Police fan and described these versions as "uniquely vivid."

"Stewart has combined his composer credentials — including for films, opera, and ballet — with these legendary rock hits and, in his words, ‘deranged’ them for the full complement of orchestral colors," she said. "Combine that palette with Stewart himself laying down the drums and three incredible singers delivering lyrics from 'Message in a Bottle' to 'Roxanne,' 'Every Breath You Take' and more, and you are in for an unforgettable evening.”

The five-time Grammy Award-winner's career includes 60 million record sales worldwide. While he’s best known for his time with Sting and Andy Summers in the Police, Copeland has had a storied career over the past several decades.

In the 1980s he created the score to Francis Ford Coppola’s “Rumblefish,” which earned him a Golden Globe nomination. Composer Copeland, 71, also wrote scores for Oliver Stone and composed the music for the films "Men at Work" and "Good Burger." He was commissioned to write a piece for the Cleveland Opera and he also crafted two short operas inspired by the works of Edgar Allan Poe.

The Virginia-born musician is not only a member of the Rock and Roll of Fame, but also the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame and the Classic Drummer Hall of Fame.
