Jack Harlow has a No. 1 hit on his hands, and Detroit's Cadillac Dale is along for the ride.

Harlow's latest single, "Lovin On Me," shoots to No. 1 on this week's Billboard Hot 100 chart, the company reported Monday. It climbs up one spot from No. 2, where it debuted on last week's chart.

Before performing at halftime, Jack Harlow, left, talks with longtime Detroit singer Cadillac Dale, whose 1995 song is the hook on Harlow's newest hit “Lovin’ on Me.”

"Lovin On Me," which the Louisville, Kentucky, rapper performed at last week's Detroit Lions Thanksgiving Day game, is built around a sample of Detroit R&B singer Cadillac Dale's 1995 track "Whatever (Bass Solique)." The song also features a lyrical shout-out to Detroit and to Detroit rapper Skilla Baby.

Harlow greeted both Skilla Baby and Dale on the sidelines of the Lions game, thanking the latter for allowing the use of the sample. Dale is credited as one of seven writers on the track, which was officially released this month after appearing in snippet form last month on TikTok.

Cadillac Dale's "Whatever (Bass Solique)" is sampled on the Jack Harlow hit "Lovin on Me."

The track is Harlow's third No. 1, following "Industry Baby," his duet with Lil Nas X, and the Fergie-sampling "First Class." "Lovin On Me" has been streamed more than 65 million times on Spotify, according to data from the streaming company.

Over the weekend, Dale took to Instagram and posted a clip of Harlow performing the song in concert. "The Hottest Song in the World! Right On! Young Jack! My friends and family can clearly hear my voice," wrote Dale, born Delbert Greer, who originally recorded "Whatever (Bass Solique)" under the artist name Dale. (He later added Cadillac to his professional moniker.)

A version of "Whatever" was recently uploaded to YouTube, apparently by Dale, who wrote in the video's description, "I released this song in 1995 bringing that New Jack swing vibe to Detroit... 'Whatever' took 29 years to get to your ears thanks to Jack Harlow... Congratulations Jack! Great Work!"

Dale is one of the voices behind "Soulful Moaning," a mid-'90s R&B hit out of Detroit recorded with his musical partner Shawn Harris, as part of the duo Shawn & Dale. The track was sampled and interpolated on "Body Language," a track from Big Sean's 2020 album "Detroit 2," featuring guest assists from Ty Dolla Sign and Jhené Aiko.
