Jazz singer Sheila Landis will celebrate her 50th anniversary as a performer Thursday at Alchemi in Royal Oak with longtime collaborator Rick Matle.

History: Landis’ long and prolific career as a jazz artist started in 1974 at the Top of the Pontchartrain Hotel in downtown Detroit. Over the past 50 years, the jazz singer has performed regularly around town and has released a catalog of music on her own jazz record label, SheLan Records. She often performs with her musical partner and collaborator, guitarist and producer Rick Matle.

Up next: The singer will celebrate 50 years of artistry with a performance Thursday, May 2 at Alchemi restaurant, 215 S. Main in downtown Royal Oak.
