Eminem, Big Sean, Madonna? Guessing which famous faces will show up to root on the Lions

Speculating which famous faces will be rooting on the Lions at Ford Field on Sunday.

Adam Graham
The Detroit News

There could be a lot of famous faces at Ford Field on Sunday for the Detroit Lions' first home playoff game in 30 years, and their first playoff game ever at the downtown stadium the team has called home since 2002.

Stars with local ties have made their home team fandom known all season long, and Sunday is a hot ticket to cheer on the NFC North champs to what could be their first playoff victory since 1991.

Who's likely to be in the stands (and in the suites) rooting on the Lions as they go head-to-head against the Los Angeles Rams? Here are our best educated guesses at the notable attendees who might be in the crowd, with a sprinkle of wishful thinking to go with it.

Eminem

Eminem walks on the sidelines at Ford Field for a Lions game last September.

Slim Shady is a Lions superfan who showed up to watch the team face the Carolina Panthers back in October. He also made the trek to Lions training camp back in 2022, a visit which was captured on HBO's "Hard Knocks." Eminem isn't seen in public very often, but when he is he makes those appearances count, and since you only get one shot at the playoffs, he's a safe bet to be in the house on Sunday. CHANCES: STRONG.

Big Sean

The Detroit rapper has performed at halftime of the Detroit Lions Thanksgiving day game multiple times, including in 2021. He's a Los Angeles resident these days, but he's due in town Monday for "Let Freedom Ring," an MLK Day event at the Fox Theatre, where he's being honored alongside Judge Greg Mathis and other prominent Detroiters. Does he come in a day early to root on the Lions? CHANCES: DECENT.

Keegan-Michael Key

Keegan-Michael Key, actor, comedian, screenwriter, producer and most of all, Detroit Lions fan chats with Lions head coach Dan Campbell before the game against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois on November 13 2022.

The Detroit-bred comedy star, who can currently be seen in "Wonka," recently stopped by Jimmy Kimmel and showed off how he'd react if the Lions won a Super Bowl. (Spoiler alert: he'd freak out.) Sunday's game is an important step on that journey, so it wouldn't be at all surprising if he made the trip home so he could freak out with his team in person. Save him a seat. CHANCES: PRETTY GOOD.

Tim Robinson, Sam Richardson

Tim Robinson, left, and Sam Richardson star in “Detroiters.”

The "Detroiters" duo and recent Emmy winners hit up the Lions-Seahawks game earlier this season, with Robinson sporting a Mel Farr jersey, no less. Richardson may have to shoot back to L.A. to support his "Ted Lasso" castmates at Monday's Emmys, as the series is up for eight awards. But would the "Detroiters" miss a Lions home playoff game? Is that even allowed? CHANCES: MEDIOCRE.

Jalen Rose

The sports analyst, podcaster and Detroit sports super fan was at the Lions game last week, wearing the same Lions letter jacket that Eddie Murphy wears in "Beverly Hills Cop," so it would be no surprise at all if he shows up Sunday for the first home Lions playoff game since he was playing basketball at University of Michigan. CHANCES: HIGH.

Jeff Daniels

Actor Jeff Daniels on the field before the game. NFL Detroit Lions vs. New York Giants at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan on September 8, 2014.

Jeff Daniels is a long-suffering Lions fan — see his song "The Silver and Honolulu Blues" — who participated in a video with Peyton Manning in October 2022 to try and lift the Curse of Bobby Layne, which has haunted the Lions for decades. Since then, the Lions have been on a roll. Maybe Daniels brings the Lions some more good luck on Sunday? CHANCES: WE CAN HOPE.

Tim Allen

Detroit Lions fan and actor Tim Allen, otherwise known as Detroit Lions fan Tim “The Toolman” Taylor before the game against the Green Bay Packers at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan on November 23, 2023.

The Michigan-raised funnyman has been known to show up on the sidelines at Lions games; he was there when the Lions played the Packers on Thanksgiving. The lifelong Lions fan is due in town for a show at the Fox Theatre on Feb. 3, but will he show up for Sunday's contest? He's still got family in the area, so he's always a possibility. CHANCES: MID-RANGE.

Gretchen Whitmer

Michigan's governor dropped by Lions practice in August to make sure things were going well, and she has tweeted her support of the team during the season. She's recently been focusing on her alma mater's arch rival and their National Championship season, but now that college football is wrapped, she can turn her attention back toward the Lions. But will she watch at the game at home or in person? CHANCES: FAIRISH.

Flavor Flav

Detroit Lions super fan Flavor Flav on the field before the Detroit Lions take on th eSeattle Seahawks at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan on September 17, 2023.

The semi-Metro Detroit resident goes wherever there is a party, or maybe everywhere he goes the party follows? Either way, the greatest hype-man in hip-hop history made several appearances at Ford Field in 2023 — he was at Taylor Swift's concert in June, and a Lions game in September — and he's very likely to be at Sunday's game, unless there's a bigger party happening somewhere else. CHANCES: YEAH, BOYEEE!

Madonna

Madonna speaks at the MTV Video Music Awards at Barclays Center on Sept. 12, 2021, in New York. Madonna will launch a new tour through North America and Europe this summer that will be include 38 songs in the Billboard Hot 100. The 35-city tour will kick off on July 15 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia with stops in Detroit, Chicago, New York, Miami, and Los Angeles.

Is Madonna a Detroit sports fan? Not likely. Has she been following the Lions this season? Extremely doubtful. But Michigan's Material Girl does have a concert at Little Caesars Arena on Monday, and she does have Sunday night off, so it is within the realm of possibility that she shows up at the stadium and sets up shop in a suite. Right? Maybe? Are we crazy? CHANCES: STRANGER THINGS HAVE HAPPENED.
