Welcome fall with Epiphany Studios

Epiphany Studios in Pontiac welcomes fall this weekend with the Great Glass Pumpkin Party, taking place Saturday and Sunday. Perfect for families, guests can enjoy hot cider and doughnuts as they explore the gallery filled with harvest-themed glass sculptures or tap into their inner glassmaker at the do-it-yourself workshop, where they make their very own glass pumpkins. For the first time ever, workshop participants will be introduced to the art of glass blowing as they inflate the molten glass into a bubble with the aid of a blowpipe. Rust & Retro Market back in Imlay City

More than 50 vendors in vintage, antiques and handmade head to Imlay City and the Eastern Michigan State Fairgrounds next weekend for the Rust & Retro Vintage Market, held Sept. 29 and 30. One of Metro Detroit’s newest vintage markets, the event will include custom experiences such as a hat bar, a candle bar, witch’s broom bar, doormat bar and a professional photographer set up for a mini session. The local Boy Scout troop will help carry large items, sell cider and doughnuts and do face painting for kids of all ages.  Hours are 5-9 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Friends of Art & Flowers Lecture at the DIA

Mark your calendar for Oct. 14, when Friends of Art & Flowers at the DIA presents the free Betsy Campbell Lecture “Rebuilding America with Ecologically Rich and Evocative Planting” with Claudia West. A leading voice in the emerging field of ecological planting design, West is the co-author of “Planting in a Post-Wild World” and is known for her passionate advocacy of plant-driven design. Putting the garden to bed

Autumn brings its own share of outdoor cleanup. If you’re thinking about getting started on your fall garden chores and could use a little free guidance, the Yardeners of St. Clair Shores have you covered. The group will present its final presentation of the year at 7 p.m. Oct.  9 with Karen Burke speaking on preserving the harvest and putting the garden to bed for winter in the St. Clair Shores library.
