Join Yardeners of St. Clair Shores member and “evangelist for native plants” Maud Lyon at 7 p.m. April 8 for “Buzz, Hum and Hover,” a presentation on the relationship between insects and native plants. Lyon will address why the loss of insects is critical to biodiversity, the reasons for it and what gardeners can do to help in a presentation to be held at the St. Clair Shores Library, 22500 E. March brings a busy time to Detroit’s historic pottery. To mark spring’s arrival, Pewabic Pottery will launch the first three tiles in its new collection and open registration for the popular Tile Glazing Workshops and Second Saturday Tours for the upcoming summer months. Launched this week, the spring collection features the first three tiles in a new zodiac series, along with several tile designs back from the vault. Grab a few goodies for spring at the first Rust & Retro Vintage Market of 2024, to be held April 5-6 at Springfield Oaks Activity Center in Davisburg.  Featured will be more than 50 local vendors selling vintage, antique and handmade items and new custom experiences, including a succulent bar where you can pick your planter and plant your own (or have someone do it for you, if you prefer). Owner Rena Starr comes from a long line of vintage lovers, so she’s well suited for the business. “My mom quite literally went into labor with me at a flea market,” she explains.  Want to shop early? Michigan ranks No. 4 for lowest home-price inflation since 2000, Clever real estate data company, found.

Wondering where Metro Detroit fits into the current housing market landscape? Clever, a real estate data company, just released new information that found that of the 50 most-populous cities in the U.S., the Motor City’s home prices have increased the third least since 2000, from $128,670 to $235,480. This means home prices in Detroit have grown about 83% since 2000, compared with 165% in the median city, according to their release. By contrast, 14 U.S. cities have seen home prices increase by more than 200 percent since 2000, and Miami’s home prices have increased the most, at a whopping 299%. Other data found that Michigan ranks No. 4 for lowest home-price inflation since 2000, with home values increasing 92%, from $119,142 to $228,329. Visit listwithclever.com.
