A 37-year-old Ferndale man has been charged in connection with fatally stabbing a Detroit man this week, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office announced Thursday.

Christopher Baldridge was arraigned in the 36th District Court before Magistrate Laura Echartea on first-degree murder charges and was remanded to jail early Thursday, Prosecutor Kym Worthy said in a statement.

Police were dispatched just before 11:30 a.m. Monday near West Vernor Highway and Central Avenue in southwest Detroit for a reported shooting, Worthy's office said.

Officers found Justin Karaba, 24, on the sidewalk after he'd sustained multiple stab wounds, according to the investigation. He was transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

Prosecutors allege Baldridge and Karaba fought before the Ferndale man produced a knife, stabbed the victim several times, then fled.

Following an investigation, Detroit police arrested Baldridge on Tuesday, Worthy said.

Baldridge's probable cause conference is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Oct. 5. A preliminary examination is scheduled for 1:45 p.m. Oct. 12 before Judge Kenneth King.
