A Detroit Public Schools Community District police officer has been convicted of filing a false carjacking report to city police in 2021.

Dajuan Dickerson, 33, was found guilty by a jury Wednesday in Wayne County Circuit Court of making a false report of a felony and lying to a peace officer, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office said.

Dickerson is scheduled to be sentenced by Judge John Gillis on April 24, prosecutors said.

He faces up to four years for making a false report of a felony and four years or more for lying to a peace officer.

His attorney, Carl Jordan, said he had no comment Thursday.

Prosecutors said Dickerson, while a police officer for the Detroit Public Schools Community District, called 911 at about 9 p.m. on March 7, 2021 to report he was carjacked at a church in the 14100 block of Evergreen Road near Schoolcraft in Detroit.

Police responded and began an investigation but officers found no evidence to support Dickerson's claims.

In May 2021, prosecutors charged the defendant through 36th District Court in Detroit with making a false report of a felony and lying to a peace officer.
