There will be no court operations conducted at the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center next week due to traffic and closures from the NFL draft complicating access to the building.

All Third Circuit Court operations at the municipal center will be moved to the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice, the Lincoln Hall of Justice and the Penobscot Building from April 22 to April 26, according to the Third Circuit Court.

“The NFL Draft will be a tremendous opportunity for the city of Detroit and Wayne County to once again show the world that we are a destination for tourists and events,” said Frank Hardester, the court administrator for Third Circuit Court. “We are working with our Jurists, employees and judicial partners to ensure Court operations continue."

The draft will run from April 25 to April 27 and is expected to draw more than 400,000 visitors to the city.

Other Third Circuit Court operations will be conducted mostly as normal next week, though Frank Murphy will not have any jury trials April 25 and 26.

Normal court operations will resume April 29.

Operations are moving because access to Coleman A. Young Municipal Center will be difficult to access the week of April 22 due to road closures and perimeter fencing. The NFL draft’s epicenter is near Campus Martius Park and Jefferson Avenue, which is close to the municipal center.

Draft-related festivities and events are planned throughout downtown during the event, including near Hart Plaza, in Corktown and at the Fox Theater
