A Detroit woman has been sentenced to seven years in prison for shooting at federal agents executing a search warrant at her apartment in 2021, officials said.

Gloria Bush, 42 was given the sentence by a judge in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan in Detroit, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced Tuesday.

She pleaded guilty to assaulting a federal officer and using and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a violent crime, U.S. Attorney Dawn Ison said.

"This case demonstrates how our federal law enforcement partners put their lives at risk every day doing the work necessary to keep our community safe," Ison said in a statement. "This defendant’s actions not only endangered the lives of federal agents but also the lives of all those living around her who could have been struck by gunfire."

Reached Wednesday afternoon, James Howarth, an attorney representing Bush, thanked the court for "reaching a fair resolution."

"On behalf of Ms. Bush, we commend the government on their cooperation in reaching a fair resolution of this unfortunate accident," Howarth said in a statement. "We thank the US Probation Dept. for providing accurate information, and finally Her Honor on seeing a path to a very just sentence."

Authorities said agents with the Drug Enforcement Administration's Special Response Team executed a search warrant at Bush's home in April 2021. The agents approached the door of her home and announced their presence, officials said.

When they attempted to enter the home, Bush fired two shots in their direction from inside the dwelling, investigators said. A round struck a shield an agent was holding.

"Every day brave men and women in law enforcement put themselves in harm’s way to keep the citizens of Michigan safe," Cheyvoryea Gibson, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI in Michigan, said in a statement. "In this case, agents from DEA’s Special Response Team were assaulted while executing a court-authorized search warrant.

"I’d especially like to recognize the (agents) as heroes based on their discipline and high level of training they exhibited when they were able to safely effect the arrest of Gloria Bush despite coming under fire."
