Police: Drugs involved in southwest Detroit triple shooting that left two women dead

Detroit — Drugs were a factor in a triple shooting in Southwest Detroit Sunday that left two women dead and a man in critical condition, police said.

The shooting happened at about 2 p.m. in the 3800 block of 33rd Street near Michigan and Junction avenues, Detroit Police Chief James White said during a Monday press conference at Detroit Public Safety Headquarters.

"We know that this case has a drug nexus," White said. "This happened at a vacant property and we recovered drug paraphernalia from the scene.

White added that, "a female in her 40s and a female in her 20s were killed," while the chief said a "male in his 30s is in extreme critical condition."

According to a preliminary investigation, the victims engaged in a conversation with other people who were in a newer, gray or silver Dodge Durango SUV and a black older model Dodge Durango. Officials said driver of the black Durango then sped away.

A man got out of the first Durango, walked up to the doorway of a home and fired shots at the victims inside, investigators said.

Detectives said the suspect was described as a male with a slim build and 5 feet 8 inches tall. He was wearing a white T-shirt.

Anyone with information about the suspect or the shooting should call the Detroit Police Department’s Homicide Unit at (313) 596-2260 or Crime Stoppers of Michigan at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
