A 16-year-old was in custody in connection with a shooting at a park Wednesday that injured four people, including two children in Detroit, said police Chief James White.

White did not release details of the arrest or the suspect.

His "relationship with the folks that were fighting could compromise the work that the prosecutor has to do ... but once that part of everything is buttoned up, there will be much more detail, even providing a photo of the person and some more details (of) the case," he said Monday at a news conference at the department's headquarters.

"I wanted the community to know that no one else is at-risk. When you get a quadruple shooting, you get a lot of calls with people saying 'What's going on with the arrests, is anybody in custody,'" White said.

One of the 18-year-old victims, a pregnant woman, was "still fighting for her life," White said. "It appears that the child, fortunately, will survive, at least at this time."

The other woman was in serious condition; the children, ages 3 and 6, were expected to make a full recovery, White said.

The shooting happened at a park near Westfield and Faust avenues at about 9 p.m. when a fight broke out between two females. One of the females called a male companion over who had a firearm in his backpack, and he allegedly shot the four victims.

White said, when asked if parents of the suspect could face charges, that police are working to identify other suspects and would release later the origins of the suspected gun that was used and "all aspects that led to this moment in time and the tragedy of four people being shot."

"Right now, the community just needs to know that there's no further risk of these suspects or this suspect hurting anyone else," White said.
