A Macomb County jury convicted an Eastpointe man in the deaths of his neighbors two years ago.

Dennis Evans, 62, fatally shot Dorian Mitchell and Christie Davis outside their Eastpointe apartment complex on Jan. 27, 2022, prosecutors said.

Evans fled to Texas, where he was later arrested.

Police found a mixture of heroin and fentanyl in Evans' apartment, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office.

A jury convicted Denis Evans, 62, on seven charges in connection with the murder of his two neighbors.

A jury on Friday found Evans guilty of seven charges, including first-degree premeditated murder, three felony firearm-second offense and felon in possession of a firearm.

The jury also convicted Evans for delivery or manufacture of a controlled substance between 50-449 grams.

Evans now faces life in prison without parole for the first-degree premeditated murder charges, according to the Prosecutor's Office.

His sentencing hearing is scheduled for April 3.

"Justice has been served for the victims and their families, and our community can find comfort in knowing that a dangerous individual has been held accountable for his actions,” Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said in a statement.

Evans' lawyer, Joshua Jones, did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday.
