One person is dead after a motorist slammed into another car off Groesbeck Highway early Saturday.

The driver of a silver Chevy Impala was traveling southbound on the highway north of Stephens Road next to a Chevy Tahoe before crashing into it, according to a Warren police press release.

The impact was severe enough to roll over the Tahoe, ejecting all four passengers inside. The Tahoe driver was pronounced dead at the scene when police and fire units arrived around 1:45 a.m.

Fire department staff took the other three Tahoe passengers to a local hospital, where they've remained in serious condition, according to the release.

No one was hurt in the Impala, according to the release, which did not say how many passengers were in the car.

Police said they arrested the Impala driver. Investigators believe reckless driving at high speeds and alcohol may have contributed to the crash, the release said.

The Macomb County Prosecutor's office will decide on criminal charges after reviewing the investigation.

"This crash is yet another sad example of what happens when alcohol and excessive speeds come together on the roadway, Warren Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer said in the release. "Our condolences go out to all the families affected by this horrible incident.”
