A Detroit man arrested Saturday after leading Warren police on a car chase and injuring an officer has been formally charged, officials said.

Romero Austin-Folson, 27, was arraigned Monday in 37th District Court in Warren on a count of third-degree fleeing and eluding, a five-year felony, and two counts of assaulting and resisting an officer, each a two-year felony, Warren Police officials said Tuesday.

A judge set his bond at $100,000 and scheduled his next court appearance for next week Tuesday. If he posts bond, he must wear a GPS tether, police said.

They also said Austin-Folson's license has multiple open suspensions. Furthermore, they said, he has a record of fleeing from police.

The latest charges against him stem from a traffic stop in Warren that happened at about 4:50 p.m. on Saturday, according to authorities.

Police pulled over a gold Chevrolet Malibu on Eight Mile near Ryan for a license plate violation.

Officers spoke with the driver and asked him to exit the vehicle. They said he was uncooperative and began to fight with them.

Authorities said the driver then sped away in his vehicle, striking an officer and allegedly running over an officer's foot.

Warren police chased the suspect's vehicle on several streets in Detroit before it pulled over in the Eight Mile and Russell Avenue area.

After getting out of the car, the driver again began to fight with officers. Police said an officer deployed his electric stun gun and subdued the suspect.

Officers believed the driver may have thrown a gun out of his car while they pursued him and searched the area for a weapon but did not locate one, they said.

Meanwhile, the two officers injured earlier by the suspect did not require medical attention, police said. Officials said no other injuries were reported.
