A 27-year-old man was arrested Monday after holding police at bay in Mount Clemens and prompting a lockdown at a nearby preschool, officials said.

Macomb County Sheriff's deputies were called at about 8:30 a.m. to a home on Park Street in Mount Clemens for a report of shots fired.

Deputies were told a man was inside the home and refused to exit. They were also told there were children inside.

Police set up a perimeter around the house. They tried to enter the home but the doors were locked and the suspect refused to let deputies inside, according to authorities.

Officials deployed a special tactics team, canine units and drones.

L'Anse Creuse Learning Academy was put on lockdown as a precaution due to its proximity to the home.

Deputies said the suspect surrendered to them at about 10 a.m. Authorities removed the children inside the home and they were examined by medical professionals.

The suspect was taken to the Macomb County Jail to await charges.

The investigation is ongoing.
