A Sterling Heights man accused of stabbing his pregnant girlfriend to death last weekend has been charged, officials said.

Damarion Goler, 31, was arraigned Wednesday in 41-A District Court in Sterling Heights on multiple charges, including second-degree murder and assault of a pregnant woman, intentionally causing miscarriage, the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office said.

A magistrate ordered Goler held without bond and scheduled his next court appearance for April 3.

If convicted, he faces up to life in prison for the murder charge, life for the assault of a pregnant woman charge, up to 10 years for tampering with evidence and up to five years for concealing the death of an individual.

Authorities allege Goler stabbed Talic Mersina, 31, at about 3 a.m. Sunday near the door of their Sterling Heights apartment near 18 Mile Road and Van Dyke Avenue.

Police reported they found Goler and the victim a few hours later in her car in the parking lot of a Clinton Township apartment building where his mother lives.

Mersina and her unborn child later died at a hospital, investigators said.

“The defendant allegedly chose to take the life of his pregnant girlfriend, someone who trusted and loved him," Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said in a statement. "Justice demands that he face the consequences of his crimes. These acts are not merely crimes against individuals but against the very fabric of humanity itself."
