At least one school canceled classes Monday after a series of schools in Macomb County received bomb threats over the weekend.

Merritt Academy in New Haven announced on its Facebook page Sunday that the school would be closed Monday.

It didn’t give a reason but the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office said the charter school was one of several that received threats over the telephone.

Among the others were schools in Armada, Chesterfield Township, Clinton Township and Casco Township, said the Sheriff’s Office.

Monday is April Fool’s Day but the Sheriff’s Office said it couldn’t afford to take the threats lightly. The law enforcement agency is investigating each threat and keeping the schools apprised of what it learns.

The Sheriff’s Office said it was up to the individual schools and school districts to decide whether they want to open on Monday.

Many schools are returning from spring break after being closed last week.

In its Facebook message, Merritt Academy announced the closing and asked parents to check their emails and voicemails for information about the issue.
