A 37-year-old woman accused of driving drunk and the wrong way on a Macomb County freeway is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.

Alexandria Marie Remington was arraigned on March 19 through 41A District Court in Shelby Township on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and a charge of possession of drug analogues.

A magistrate set her bond at $25,000 and scheduled a probable cause conference for Tuesday.

If convicted, the Macomb Township resident faces up to two years for the analogues possession charge. The driving while intoxicated charge is a misdemeanor.

Reached by email Tuesday, her attorney, Avis Choulagh, said he had no comment on the case.

Police said officers were called at about midnight on March 18 to a location on M-53 near 23 Mile Road for a report of a wrong-way driver.

They arrived at the location and saw a black Dodge Ram pickup truck traveling north on M-53's southbound lanes, authorities said.

Officers shut down the freeway to prevent the truck from crashing head-on with other vehicles.

They said the pickup's driver continued traveling on the freeway but stopped at 27 Mile. Police spoke to the woman driving the truck and said they could smell alcohol on her breath. After conducting field sobriety tests on the driver, they asked her to take a breathalyzer but she refused.

Officers arrested the woman.

On Tuesday, they released police dashboard camera footage of the incident.

"I am thankful for our officer’s quick response to alert other drivers and shut down the freeway, helping to avoid a serious head-on crash," Shelby Township Police Chief Robert Shelide said in a statement. "Our department will continue to have zero tolerance for drivers who choose to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs in Shelby Township."
