Sterling Heights first responders will be awarded Friday for saving a baby's life this year.

Police dispatched Officer Potts to a Dream Dollar grocery store on Feb. 19 at around 3:30 p.m. after receiving reports of an 18-month-old child not breathing, police said in a news release.

"He's not breathing," a caller told a 911 dispatcher, according to an audio file of the report. "He's turning blue."

Potts administered chest compressions to the child until Sterling Heights firefighters arrived, according to the release.

Firefighters continued CPR and transported the child to Corewell Health Hospital, where doctors told police first responders had saved the child's life, according to the release.

The Macomb County EMS Medical Control Authority and Corewell Health will recognize fire department personnel and Potts with an award at a Friday presentation in Clinton Township, according to the release.
