An Eastpointe man has been sentenced to life in prison in connection with his neighbors' deaths.

A Macomb County jury convicted Dennis Evans in February for fatally shooting Dorian Mitchell and Christie Davis outside their apartment on Jan. 27, 2022.

Police found a mix of heroin and fentanyl in Evans' apartment, and later arrested him in Texas, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office.

On Wednesday, Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Edward Servitto sentenced Evans on seven counts, including two counts of first-degree premeditated murder, with accompanying sentences of life without the possibility of parole, according to the Prosecutor's Office.

Evans was also sentenced for three felony firearm second offense counts, one count of possessing a firearm as a felon and another count of delivery or manufacture of a controlled substance between 50 and 449 grams.

“Justice has been served, but it's important to remember the lives lost and the pain inflicted," Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said in the release. "This sentence reflects the severity of the crimes committed and ensures that the perpetrator will never pose a threat to society again. I hope this sentence brings some measure of peace to those affected by this senseless tragedy.”
