A dirt bike rider died Monday after he was struck by a pickup truck on a northern Macomb County road, Michigan State Police said.

Troopers were called at about 8:45 p.m. to Brown Road south of Reid northeast of M-53 and 34 Mile in Bruce Township for a report of a crash.

State police and medics arrived and found an injured 53-year-old Romeo man, authorities said. He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.

According to a preliminary investigation, a Dodge Ram pickup truck was traveling south on Brown Road when its driver used the northbound lane to pass another vehicle.

While traveling in the oncoming lane, the truck crashed head-on into a dirt bike headed north, police said.

The truck's driver, a 55-year-old Imlay City man, was not injured in the crash.

Investigators believe the Imlay City man was driving impaired and arrested him at the scene.

He is held at the Macomb County Jail awaiting charges, police said.

"Another family is mourning the loss of a loved one due to a preventable traffic crash," MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw, a spokesman for the agency's Second District, said in a post on X. "There are too many options available to get behind the wheel impaired. Please do not drink and drive."
