A Warren man has been charged in connection with a hit and run this year, county officials announced Friday.

Tony Prather, 48, had given the man a ride home after stopping by a Warren bar on Feb. 23, according to a press release from the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office.

Prather allegedly dropped the man off at his home, then hit him with his truck and drove off, leaving him in the road, officials said.

Prather also left Michigan and was recently extradited back to the state, according to the release.

The man remains in critical condition but is expected to survive, prosecutors reported.

Prather was arraigned Thursday through 37th Warren District Court on multiple felonies, including assault with intent to murder and operating a vehicle with a suspended license, causing serious injury, according to the release.

Prather is also being charged as a habitual fourth offender.

A judge set his bond at $350,000.

Prather must wear a steel cuff GPS tether, not contact the victim and remain in Michigan if released.

"Fleeing the scene after allegedly causing serious injury is a cowardly act that will not go unpunished," Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said in the release. "Regardless of where the individual attempts to hide, we will ensure they are brought back to face the consequences of their actions. There is no escape from accountability."

Prather's probable cause hearing will be on May 16.
