A Warren police officer was injured Monday after she and authorities broke up a fight at a high school, officials said.

The officer is listed in serious but stable condition at a hospital with a possible concussion.

Police also said a juvenile suspected to have injured the officer is in custody.

Officials said they received several calls at about 2:49 p.m. Monday about a large fight happening at Lincoln High School as classes were dismissed for the day. The high school is located near Nine Mile Road and Van Dyke Avenue.

Officers arrived and broke up the fight. Investigators said as police were in the process of arresting a man, a female juvenile interfered and began assaulting a female officer. They allege the minor struck the officer in the head from behind, causing the woman to fall to the ground.

Other officers came to her aid and arrested both the minor and the man, police said. Medics took the injured officer to a hospital.

Authorities said they don't believe the female suspect arrested is a student at the high school. They also did not say what caused the fight.

Detectives will submit the findings of their investigation to the county prosecutor's office to determine whether the suspect will be charged as a juvenile or an adult.
