A Warren police officer who was injured Monday while breaking up a fight at a high school has been released from the hospital, officials said.

The five-year veteran of the department was released Tuesday and is at home recovering, Warren Police Commissioner Charles Rushton said in a statement.

His announcement comes a day after the teens suspected of assaulting the officer were charged in court.

Rushton said the officer's injuries will likely have an impact on her life going forward.

"Any time an officer is assaulted and seriously injured, the entire law enforcement community suffers," the commissioner said. "I know the men and women of this department are working together to help their injured partner get better and return to work. Please keep the injured officer in your thoughts and prayers and wish her a speedy recovery."

Officials also said Thursday that the investigation into the assault of the officer is ongoing and detectives are working to identify other suspects.

"We expect several additional arrests to take place very soon," Rushton said. "This is a very serious yet sad incident. Officers responded to a school to keep the peace and protect children. A school should be a setting where officers and students have positive community-based interactions; assaults on officers cannot and should not occur."

Officials with the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office said the youngest of the three charged in the case, a 17-year-old Eastpointe girl, was arraigned Tuesday in Juvenile Court.

Authorities are not releasing her name because she is a minor, but they said she faces several charges, including assaulting a police officer and causing injury, a four-year felony; two counts of assaulting a police officer, each a two-year felony; a count of malicious destruction of property valued at $200 or more but less than $1,000, a one-year misdemeanor; and a count of disturbing the peace, a 90-day misdemeanor.

A juvenile court referee ordered the youth to be held at the Juvenile Justice Center without bond, the prosecutor's office said.

The other two suspects, Danasia Kennedy-Johnson, 18, of Eastpointe, and Xavier Tayvione-Demarr Jones, 18, of Warren, were arraigned Wednesday in 37th District Court in Warren, officials said.

Kennedy-Johnson

Kennedy-Johnson was charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, assaulting a police officer and causing injury, malicious destruction of property valued at $200 or more but less than $1,000, and disorderly conduct.

A judge set her bond at $200,000 and scheduled her next court hearing for May 7.

If convicted, she faces up to 10 years in prison for the assault with intent to do great bodily harm charge, four years for assaulting a police officer and causing injury, a year for malicious destruction of property and 90 days for disorderly conduct.

Prosecutors charged Jones with three counts of assaulting a police officer and disorderly conduct.

A judge set his bond at $75,000 and scheduled his next court hearing for May 7th.

If convicted, he faces up to two years for each count of assaulting an officer and 90 days for disorderly conduct.

Jones

"Our police officers risk their lives every day to keep our community safe and violence against them is unacceptable in a civil society," Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said Wednesday in a statement. "Such actions will be met with the full force of the law."

Officials said the teens were arrested Monday at Lincoln High School.

Police were called at about 2:49 p.m. to the school to respond to a large fight that was happening as classes were being dismissed, they said.

Kennedy-Johnson and Jones were allegedly at the school to fight a student on a bus, according to the prosecutor's office.

After police broke up the fight, two officers tried to arrest Jones, the prosecutor's office said. He resisted and caused them to fall to the ground, officials reported.

As the officers attempted to subdue Jones, the 17-year-old girl and Kennedy-Jones allegedly assaulted one of the officers, officials said. Police said on Monday the teen girl struck the officer in the head from behind, causing her to fall to the ground.

Police said on Thursday that Kennedy-Jones kicked the officer in the head and stomped on it while the woman was on the ground.

Police came to the officer's aid and medics took her to a hospital.
