Police arrest 5 over wrestler's homicide death

An alleged drug deal that ended in a fatal shooting in Pittsfield Township in late April has led to the arrest of five suspects in raids Tuesday in Southeast Michigan and beyond, police said. 

Authorities said on Tuesday, Pittsfield police and a number of partnering agencies executed 11 search warrants, netting eight arrests, five of which are believed to be connected to the killing of Christopher "Jack" Marsh, a 19-year-old former Eastern Michigan University wrestler hailing from Georgia.

Marsh was gunned down in April in a parking lot outside his apartment on the 2100 block of Glencoe Hills Drive.

Police in April said Marsh's shooting death "was the result of a robbery related to narcotics in a pre-arranged meeting." Marsh died of multiple gunshot wounds. 

Information on the suspects' identities and ages was not immediately available, as they have not yet been arraigned. 

Matt Harshberger, director of public safety for the township, said open murder charges will be pursued against the five Ypsilanti/Ypsilanti Township men. 

Tuesday's raids were a collaboration between Pittsfield police and Michigan State Police, Washtenaw County SWAT, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Grand Rapids FBI Violent Crimes Task Force, among others.
