Small plane makes emergency landing in Livingston County; no injuries reported

Authorities are investigating after a small plane made an emergency landing after the pilot reported mechanical issues Thursday afternoon in Livingston County.

The single-engine aircraft made the landing in a field near Layton Road and Interstate 96 around 4 p.m., said Bob Feig, chief at the Fowlerville Area Fire Department.

The pilot was the only occupant aboard the Mooney M20. He landed west of the Livingston County Spencer J. Hardy Airport, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

Michigan State Police identified him as a 33-year-old man.

He did not report injuries, Feig said.

The pilot told emergency personnel he had been experiencing mechanical issues that forced him to land, the chief said.

FAA records show the plane was manufactured in 1976 and registered to a company based in Delaware.

Michigan State Police are compiling a report on the incident, said Sgt. Chad Sell of the Livingston County Sheriff's Office, which responded along with Fowlerville and Howell fire crews.

The FAA is also investigating, officials said Thursday night.
