A good Samaritan hit by a car early Tuesday while trying to help people in a crash in Ann Arbor is recovering, police said.

The drivers of two cars involved in the crash are also expected to recover, authorities reported.

Officials said police, firefighters and medics were called at about 5:50 a.m. Tuesday to the intersection of Washtenaw Avenue and Pittsfield Boulevard for a vehicle crash.

According to a preliminary investigation, a 30-year-old man driving a sedan failed to yield at a flashing red traffic signal and pulled in front of a car traveling west, causing a collision.

Ann Arbor police said a good Samaritan was struck by a passing car early Tuesday while checking on two drivers of vehicles involved in an earlier crash.

Police said the good Samaritan who stopped to check on the drivers was struck by a passing car that swerved to avoid the first crash.

Medics took the drivers in the first crash and the good Samaritan to a hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.

Investigators said it appears neither alcohol nor drugs were factors in the crash.

All involved parties are cooperating with the investigation.
