A Battle Creek man was arrested last weekend after cutting a person with a knife during a fight over an Easter egg hunt, officials said.

Deputies with the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office were called at about 9:15 a.m. Sunday to Valley View Elementary School on Avenue A in Springfield for a report of a stabbing.

They found a person with minor lacerations and a man suspected of inflicting the wounds with a knife. Deputies convinced the suspect to drop the knife and arrested him, police said.

After an investigation, they determined a man and a woman were setting up for an Easter egg hunt when they got into a fight about the placement of eggs, authorities said.

They said a relative intervened in the fight and the man pulled out a knife, slashing and cutting the victim multiple times. Medics treated the victim at the scene.

No other injuries were reported, police said.

Deputies arrested the suspect and took him to the Calhoun County Jail to await charges.
