A Clio man was killed Tuesday after fatally shooting a woman and firing a shotgun at police, officials said.

Clio police officers and Genesee County Sheriff's deputies were called at about 7:30 p.m. to an apartment building in the 600 block of North Mill Street near Field Road for a report of shots fired and a domestic dispute, according to authorities.

Officers arrived and found a wounded woman on the building's steps as well as a man wielding a shotgun. The man walked into the roadway and fired the weapon at officers, officials said.

Police said officers exchanged gunfire with the man and he was struck. Medics treated him at the scene and took the man to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Authorities determined the female victim was dead. Officers entered the apartment where the argument started and found a man dead, officials said.

Clio police said no other injuries were reported.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing and being conducted by Clio police, the sheriff's office, and Michigan State Police.
