State police bomb squad in Antrim Co. disposes of 2 explosives
A Michigan State Police bomb squad in northern Michigan disposed of two explosive devices in two incidents Sunday, officials said.
In the first one, the bomb squad was called to help the Antrim County Sheriff's Office. A homeowner in Kewadin called 911 after finding a military explosive that washed up on the shore of Grand Traverse Bay, they said.
Deputies arrived and called the state police bomb squad. The bomb squad took the device, identified as a Mark-25 Marine Marker military flare, and properly disposed of it, authorities said.
Shortly after, a state police trooper from the Gaylord Post called the bomb squad to a traffic stop on US-131 near Wetzel Lake Road in Mancelona. After the trooper pulled the vehicle over and approached the driver, he saw an M-150 on the vehicle's dashboard.
Officials said the bomb squad arrived, seized the explosive and disposed of it.
Other details were not released Monday.
