Police are searching for a parole absconder who allegedly fired a gun Friday at officers in Eaton County before fleeing, officials said.

Marcus Gamba Oglesby, 31, of Jackson, is accused of shooting at officers at about 8 a.m. in Delta Township, Michigan State Police said.

He is described as is 6-foot-1 and weighing135 pounds. He was last seen dressed entirely in black clothing.

Oglesby

Police said he is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who sees Oglesby should call 911 and not approach him.

According to a preliminary investigation, Michigan Department of Corrections Absconder Recovery Unit officers followed a black Jeep Patriot in the 1700 block of Willow Highway in Lansing Township. They followed it because Oglesby was inside and wanted on numerous felony warrants, including one for aggravated assault, police said.

As the Jeep entered Delta Township, the suspect got out with a gun and fired at the police vehicle, investigators said. Police returned fire and the suspect got back into the Jeep, which sped away, they said.

Officials said neither the suspect nor the officers were struck by gunfire.

They followed the Jeep as it pulled into a shopping plaza at Waverly Road and West Saginaw Highway, authorities said. The suspect exited the Jeep and ran and the SUV drove off.

Police have not been able to locate Oglesby or the Jeep. Canine units were searching for the suspect and the vehicle.

Oglesby absconded from parole on March 20, according to the Michigan Department of Corrections.

He was sentenced in 2022 to a minimum of 13 months for resisting arrest, the agency said. He has previous convictions for tampering with an electronic monitoring device, unlawfully driving away an automobile and first-degree home invasion.
