Man arrested in Livingston Co. thought he was meeting teen for 'immoral acts,' police say

A Detroit man could face charges in connection with trying to meet someone he thought was a teenager for "immoral purposes" in Livingston County this week, police said.

Since March, the man had been having conversations with an undercover official who posed as a 14-year-old girl, the Green Oak Township Police Department said in a statement.

"The reporting party is not affiliated with the Green Oak Police Department, works independently, and has been involved in similar cases throughout Michigan," according to the release.

The two agreed to meet Thursday at a 7-Eleven store on Lee Road in Green Oak Township, "after several text messages back and forth about meeting and other immoral acts," officials wrote.

At about 10:52 a.m., officers were waiting there for the man, who was legally armed with a 9 mm gun and sitting in the vehicle he described in the text messages, police reported.

He was arrested without incident and taken to the Livingston County Jail pending a case review by the county prosecutor.

Police did not release additional details.

"This case is still under investigation, and it will take Officers time to review all the evidence related to the case," police said.

"...Greek Oak Police would like to stress to the community that the actions of the reporting party are extremely dangerous, and the public’s safety is always our top priority."
