Michigan gas prices are up 12 cents from last week to an average of $3.71 per gallon for regular unleaded, according to AAA.

The company attributed the rising prices to tighter supply.

"Michigan motorists are once again seeing higher prices at the pump with the state average hitting a new 2024-high," Adrienne Woodland, a spokeswoman for AAA-The Auto Club Group, said in a statement Monday. "If crude oil prices rise, alongside tight supply, gas prices may continue to rise."

The state's average price of regular unleaded gasoline is 17 cents more than the same time last month and 19 cents more than a year ago, AAA said.

It also said Michigan motorists are paying about $55 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline, which is about $3 lower than the highest gas price in 2023, reached last August.

In Metro Detroit, the average daily price per gallon is up to $3.64 per gallon, about 4 cents more than last week and 13 cents more than the same time in 2023.

According to AAA, the most expensive gas can be found in Jackson at $3.81 per gallon, Lansing at $3.79 per gallon and Saginaw at $3.78 a gallon.

The cheapest is in Marquette at $3.59 per gallon, Metro Detroit at $3.64 per gallon and Benton Harbor at $3.71.

Nationally, a gallon of regular unleaded gas costs an average of $3.66. The price is a penny less than a week ago and three cents more than last year.
